Changing Your Tires
How do you change a car tire? Follow these steps, and you'll be back on the streets of South Elgin in no time.Â
- Move to a safe place on the side of the street and turn on your hazard lights.Â
- Grab your car jack and position it under the frame of your car by the flat tire. The pump the jack until your flat tire is completely lifted and off the ground.
- Remove the wheel cover or hubcap from the tire then loosen the lug nuts.Â
- Remove the current tire and mount the spare tire.
- Tighten the lug nuts in an alternating pattern, then gently lower your vehicle back to the ground.
How Often Should You Change Car Tires?
How often you have to change your car tires depends on how often you rotate them and how well they were made. If you rotate them regularly, you should be able to get the full mileage advertised by the manufacturer. However, if the tires have significant tread wear, you may have to get them changed sooner. To get full use of your tires, make sure to have them rotated regularly. Save some time at the service shop by having your tires rotated when you go in for an oil change. You can also check your tire pressure and tread at home to make sure your tires are in good shape.Â
How Many Miles Can You Go on A Spare Tire?
After you change your tire in Streamwood you may wonder, "How long can I drive on a spare tire?" Typically, you shouldn't drive more than 50 miles on a spare. They're not built to withstand long distances, and it's ill-advised to drive at high speeds on a spare. They're made to make it until you can have the tire swapped for a permanent tire at your Hyundai dealer. Elgin Hyundai is happy to provide Hyundai customers from Bartlett to Elgin with a tire change or rotation. Take a look at our service specials.Â
