The Early Years

- 1986: Hyundai's debut brought in sales of 168,882 - marking a record for first time sales in the import segment.
- 1987: Hyundai raised the bar even higher, surging to 263,610 units sold.
- 1988: Hyundai Motor America (HMA) grows with every year, and a $21 million distribution center opens in California to keep up with the immense demand.
- 1990: After expanding to Illinois and Georgia, HMA moves its headquarters to an 18-acre facility in Fountain Valley, California.
The Later Years

- 1990: HMA opens a huge, $12 million port facility in Oregon. Five other port facilities follow.
- 2002: Montgomery, Alabama becomes the first Hyundai assembly plant in the United States, employing nearly 2,000 workers.
- 2003: The Hyundai-Kia Motors Design & Research Center opens to generate brand new ideas and fresh design concepts for future vehicles.
- 2014: Hyundai is named the fifth largest automobile manufacturer, based on overall sales.
