Production of Santa Fe Sport will Begin this Summer in Alabama

To meet the growing demand in the popular compact SUV segment, Hyundai has announced its decision to add the Santa Fe Sport to Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama's (HMMA) production schedule, beginning this summer.

Currently, the Alabama plant produces Sonata and Elantra models, and is capable of manufacturing 400,000 units a year. In the coming months, HMMA will begin preparing for the transition by focusing on robot programming and facility retooling.

“We’re thrilled to bring back another pillar of the Hyundai lineup to our production mix here at HMMA,” said Chris Susock, vice president of production, HMMA. “We’ve been extremely proud to build both Sonata and Elantra on our assembly line for Hyundai in the U.S. and we will continue our tradition of quality and productivity with the addition of the Santa Fe Sport in 2016.”
